Dholakwaale

5o families originally from a small village from U.P. travel across India as a group making and selling drums. Currently living under the roof of tarpaulin tents in Thannisandra, a locality in Bangalore, they excel at creating beautiful carvings on musical instruments, from small damarus to large djembe’s. This craft has been handed down for generations for the past 500 years which is now a dying art form which needs to be preserved.

The Dholak waale sell their products in a nomadic fashion, often traveling significant
distances to sell directly to customers. The absence of sufficient market linkages made sales extremely tedious.

It became clear that diversifying the Dholak Waale’s product base would be essential to increasing their revenue and enhancing their quality of life.
